Legendre and Van der Lijke Zijlaard fastest at UCI Millars Granfondo
The second edition of the only Spanish UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifier relocated towards Castellon della Plana on a new 158.9km course with two major climbs that totalled 2,213m of climbing
1593 riders from 35 different countries participated. Former Giro winner Fabio Aru was one of the guests on the start list.
Dutch Nick van der Lijke Zijlaard finished solo in a time of 4:08:38 with an average speed of 38.2 km/h. The ex pro rider had a 1m 37 gap towards his compatriot Pieter Frolichs with Spanish Alvaro Marza Martinez third a few seconds later. The decision was made on the second climb of the day, the Coll de la Lloma when Lijke Zijlaard got a gap.
French women Gwenaelle Legendre won the womens race attacking early to finish in 4:42:57, 6m 15 before two Polish riders Emilia Graban, who outsprinted Kateryna Kalashlinska for second place.
