Zuid-Limburg Region of the Netherlands to Host 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has officially announced that the Zuid-Limburg region of the Netherlands will host the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships on October 11-12, 2025
This exciting event comes after the original venue in Nice, France, withdrew due to unforeseen circumstances, prompting the UCI to seek a new host at the last minute.
Zuid-Limburg, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and cycling-friendly infrastructure, is no stranger to international cycling events. The region has successfully hosted the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in 2018 and has welcomed the UCI Road World Championships five times, with the most recent edition held in Valkenburg in 2012.
UCI President David Lappartient expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming championship, stating, "By hosting the UCI Gravel World Championships, the province of Limburg has further enhanced its standing as a leading cycling region at the international level, while contributing to the development of gravel, a discipline that is still quite new and has considerable potential for growth."
The UCI Gravel World Championships will feature elite cyclists from around the globe, competing on a challenging course designed to showcase the natural beauty and diverse terrain of Zuid-Limburg. The event aims to promote the burgeoning discipline of gravel cycling, which has gained significant popularity in recent years.
Christophe Impens, Director of International Cycling at Golazo, the event’s organizer, shared his excitement about the partnership with the UCI. "Golazo has been managing the UCI Gravel World Series on behalf of the UCI since 2022, and we have recently renewed that agreement until 2030. Our passion for this fast-growing cycling discipline also resulted in the organization of the 2023 UEC Gravel European Championships and the 2024 UCI Bolero Gravel World Championships in Flanders," he said.
As preparations for the championship begin, event organizers are collaborating with the province of Limburg and the three host municipalities—Maastricht, Beek, and Beekdaelen—to finalize plans and logistics. Additional details regarding the event, including race routes, registration information, and spectator opportunities, will be announced in the coming weeks.
