Fortin and Fillatreau Dominate at UCI 66 Degres Sud Cyclo
The UCI Gran Fondo World Championship qualifying races returned to Perpignan, France, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, where Lucas Fillatreau (UVAGG) and Emilie Fortin showcased their cycling prowess, clinching solo victories in the prestigious 66 Degres Sud Cyclo
Fillatreau, a 29-year-old Frenchman, conquered the challenging 149-kilometer route in an impressive 4:10:45, while Fortin, fresh off her win at GFNY Cannes, dominated the women’s category with a time of 4:31:27.
The 66 Degres Sud Cyclo presented a grueling challenge for cyclists, featuring a daunting 2,442 meters of climbing that tested the endurance and skill of participants. Fillatreau's performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he finished over three minutes ahead of his nearest competitor, Leo Pendery, who clocked in at 4:13:53. Adrien Baron sprinted to secure third place with a time of 4:18:07, showcasing the competitive spirit among the top contenders.
In the women’s division, Fortin's victory added another accolade to her growing list of achievements. Her impressive finish of 4:31:27 not only secured her first-place position but also solidified her status as a formidable force in the cycling community. Following her were Barbara Van Lathem, who completed the race in 4:58:48, and Gwenaelle Legendre, who rounded out the podium with a time of 5:07:39.
The event also featured a 113-kilometer medio fondo, where Henry Jumeaux (TEAM 3SO-CUBE-DUKE) emerged victorious in the men’s category with a time of 3:06:33. Marie Gielen (VC MORTEAU MONTBENOIT) claimed first place among the women, finishing in 3:18:50.
In addition to the gran fondo and medio fondo, an 18-kilometer time trial was held on Thursday, where David Velthuis took the top spot for the men with a remarkable time of 28:00. Gwenaelle Legrendre (ALBI VELO SPORT) won the women’s time trial with a time of 34:58, indicating her strong form leading into the weekend’s events.
Riders who finished in the top 25% of their age/gender category have qualified for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, set to take place later this year in Australia, providing an exciting opportunity for competitors to showcase their talents on a global stage.
