Fancy a day skiving off work or making this a longer Bank Holiday Weekend?  This is a lumpy bumpy audax from Bewdley to Hay-on-Wye, over the Black Mountains and back via the Marcle and Malvern Hills. If you fancy, you can even take the Gospel Pass route out Hay for the greatest views, otherwise it is the fearsome ascent through Craswall to reach Herefordshire.  The route passes through cake stop opportunities at Ludlow, Hay-on-Wye and Ledbury.  This is a challenging route, so you will need to make sure that your legs are happy with the hills.

The event forms part of Bewdley Bike Week.

Over the Black Mountains

There are two options after Hay-on-Wye.  You can either take that famous Gospel Pass, which is a bit rough in places, or the lesser known but steeper Craswall Pass nearby.

Lumpy Bumpy

You may think of the Black Mountains as providing the biggest climb but the real fun comes afterwards.  The route through Herefordshire and West Worcestershire resembles sharks teeth but the route is rewarding for little traffic and fabulous rural countryside.  Oh, and don't forget Clee Hill just after the start from Bewdley.

Control locations where refreshments can be obtained for cafes include:

- Ludlow (34km)

- Hay-on-Wye (85km)

- Ledbury (165km)

- Bewdley start/finish (208km)

The The plan is for a group start at 8am unless pandemic restrictions dictate smaller groups. On an audax, riders ride at their own pace but attain an average speed of 15-30kph overall but you will make plenty of friend on the way. The finishing time at Bewdley is 14:58-22:38

Proofs of Passage

Audaxes pass use control locations where a proof of passage is required. Traditionally, this is a brevet card with collected shop receipts or questions and answers.  At this event, you will have the option of using the Audax E Brevet app on your phone instead, or submission of a GPS track.

Registration Fees

£4 for AUK or Cycling UK members; £7 for others including AUK day membership.

Included

This is an x-rated or basic audax, hence the low fee but the ride but just as good.  Entrants register with the controller at the starting location, ride the audax route and then submit their brevets via e-mail or post to the organiser afterwards.  Riders can choose their own cake laden cafes at the control locations.
