The Bahamas is a tropical vacation getaway renowned for its beaches, sunshine and warm weather. Spanning 500 miles in the Atlantic Ocean, the Bahamas is an ecological oasis with 700+ islands and cays and the clearest water on the planet. The varying degrees of blue contrasting with the powdery white sand beaches are relaxing and mesmerizing. The name ‘Bahamas’ comes from the Spanish word “bajamar" which means ‘shallow water" or "low tide”.

Sport is a significant part of Bahamian culture, from track & field, basketball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, tennis, cricket, and more. Bahamas is host to a large variety of sports events year-round and is home to some of the world’s top sports talent. Traveling to the Bahamas for sport provides a unique dimension to your next beach vacation to be visiting a destination that has deep interest and passion for an active lifestyle and for sport.

GFNY Bahamas is held in the capital, Nassau, where the ease of the tropics meets city life. Here, the beautiful beaches are just the beginning. Venture beyond to discover an island paradise humming with history, art, nightlife, and culture. Nassau is a popular cruise-ship port and has many tourist activities, stores and restaurants. It has retained its British colonial architecture, like the pink-hued Government House.

GFNY Bahamas race course is flat and fast, with both the long and medium courses starting together from West Bay Street and taking on a loop through the western side of New Providence island. The long route riders do the loop a second time before finishing back where the race started on West Bay Street.

The race week activities take place at Goodman's Bay Park, a breathtaking park overlooking a beautiful white sand beach, palm trees and gently rolling waves.

From the start on West Bay Street, the course travels on Baha Mar Blvd past six roundabouts. Ride on the left side of the road, same as car traffic. Then on John F Kennedy Drive, you’ll pass by the scenic Lake Cunningham. Make a left just before the airport and head south on a loop of western part of New Providence island. Ride past stunning nature, passing the Primeval Forest National Park, dramatic cliffs near Clifton Heritage National Park, and fabulous beaches of South Ocean Beach and Jaw’s Beach (where the movie Jaws was filmed). Experience the more remote and wild side of the Bahamas’ most populated island.

A combination of equatorial ocean currents and cool ocean breezes result in a mild climate but the windy conditions will challenge you. You can expect a lot of group riding and pace lines. Your group's leaders will provide some much appreciated shielding from the winds.

Back on John F Kennedy Dr, there are more roundabouts and at the end of the stretch, the long route riders make a 360-degree right turn back to take on a second loop and the medium route riders take the first exit left to head back to the finish line. After completing the second loop, the long route riders will be again back on John F Kennedy Drive and then also proceed left back to Baha Mar Blvd and back to West Bay Street, where the finish line, your supporters and the post-race celebrations await.
