26 MILE ROUTE

This year's 26-miler is a challenging but friendly route. We put some hills in while keeping the great scenery and shaded back roads afforded by Chester County on the way to the Brandywine Outfitters food stop. While there, check out the canoe rentals, stock up on vittles, then follow the paddlers downstream on this quiet, shaded and meandering section of our eponymous river.

65 MILE ROUTE

We're bypassing Smith's Bridge this year.
Great hill but too much traffic. Follow the crowd to the first rest stop, then pick your poison, er distance. Overall, the routes are front-loaded with hills and flatten out at the end.

50 MILE ROUTE

All routes 50 miles and longer now follow the same route to the Fred Engle food stop in West Grove. Expect hills. Lots of hills. And serene country roads, ever-changing scenery and something different around every bend. Then, if you're feeling frisky after the first 22 miles, you can tack on some extra miles by following the longer routes home.

80 MILE ROUTE

Slumbering Groundhog, Bell Road and 20 miles. That's all that separates you from a full-blown century. Slumbering Groundhog is the outermost rest stop that is only available on the century. Your cut-off is at the 43-mile mark and your last chance to shorten the route. Feeling enervated or languid? There's still a big Bell to ring and 37 miles left.

100 MILE ROUTE

Now you're committed -- or you should be. There are hills at the far end of this route in Lancaster County and yet another covered bridge. We didn't go hill-hunting, honest. We just liked the scenery and the flow of the roads and the creeks. In fact, we seem to have a penchant for flowing water as you will ride alongside the Brandywine for more than 20 miles as well as the White Clay, Red Clay and Bucktoe Creeks and cross more than 20 small runs. That's why this is among the best of the green coast.
