The Hondo will go through Eureka, Beaumont, and Leon. There will be 3 check points for the The Hondo at mile 55, mile 80, and mile 106. The Hondo intermediate is some of the same challenging and scenic roads, also stops in historic Beaumont, and is just “enough” to satisfy without totally eating one’s lunch. There will be 2 check points for the THI at mile 38, and mile 64. WHERE: The start/finish will be at Garvin Park, below the dam of the Augusta City Lake, in Augusta, Kansas, just a few short miles East of Wichita. The start/finish venue is located in a beautiful park next to the lake which is conducive to an all-day family outing with picnic tables, shade trees, and a play area equipment.

WHO: The Hondo is the brain child of Bob Cummings. And I’m a partner in crime. We want to create an epic gravel event close to Wichita, with amazing roads, locales, and views. I think we might be onto something. But that said we want to keep it simple. Bob is a small business owner in Wichita, KS and I’m a busy IT geek at a private college in Winfield, KS. So we aren’t doing this to make a buck… that’s for sure. We want to keep the cost down and make it affordable. It’s all about grass roots fun. We really want to create something special and showcase epic riding close to Wichita. Bob is a full-time business man and a full-time Cat 1 bicycle racer, racing almost every weekend. And me, well I’m busy. My competitive days might be waning, but I have irons in lots of fires as well as my day job. What I’m trying to say is we love the sport of cycling, love the people, support all the local and regional events, and this is our way to give back and do our part. We hope you’ll support us too! So onto the WHO part. The event was created by Bob Cummings and Bobby Smith for YOU!
