The Carinthian Wörthersee is well known as being a Paradise for Roadcycling with beautiful lakes and small roads that wind up the mountains. Even high passes are not far!
But for Gravel riders it is still a secret paradise passed by word of mouth. But that will not last for long!
Wörthersee Gravel is a new UCI Gravel race in southern Austria starting from Velden am Wörthersee and organized by Johnny Hoogerland, reigning Gravel and Gran Fondo World Champion in the M40-44 category on a course that has been designed on his training roads.
The course is designed on the south side of Velden am Worthersee and the lake on a 48.8km course which has to be done twice by all men over 60 and women over 50 or three times for all younger categories. Start and finish are located in the city center of Velden am Worthersee at the Seecorso with a nice view on the lake. The first 6km are on paved roads slightly going up for the first 3km leaving town. A major part of the course is designed at the borders of the Drau river and the connecting channel. There is one major climb starting after 10km on each lap.
