Add to My Favourites

The Big Island of Tierra del Fuego is located at the southern tip of Chile and extends across latitude from 52 to 55 degrees south and longitude from 68 to 75 degrees west. The island is shared by Chile and Argentina and is separated from the mainland by the Strait of Magellan.

Tierra del Fuego is an area of ??great ecological importance, housing a great diversity of animal and plant species, many of which are endemic to the region. It is also an area of ??great historical and cultural importance, being the home of various indigenous communities such as the Selk'nam, Haush and Yamana, who have inhabited the region for thousands of years.

The second version of the Karukinka Gravel Race will take you to discover one of the paths least explored by humans in a virgin and pure natural environment such as the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego Island.

Our main objective is for you to reach where very few have reached, in a territory that opens to the world and shows its hidden beauty and that has only been there for a few, but that thanks to the efforts of pioneering people will be, in the future, one of the most emblematic tourist centers at the edge of the world.

The race takes place mainly on the Vicuña-Yendegaia Route, a path forged by the Military Labor Corps (CMT) that for years has been in charge of the construction of the land route that will link the Strait of Magellan with the Beagle Channel by territory. national of Chile.

The eternal days of December that begin at 4 am and end at 11 pm will witness the effort of each of the competitors in covering the route of nearly 440 kilometers between pampas, native forests, lakes, rivers and the two southernmost mountain passes in the world.

We tour the commune of Timaukel, located in the extreme south of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, from north to south, from the plains of the pampas through the Sierra Carmen Silva; the plain of the Río Grande, a landscape that alternates the Magellanic pampa with the first forests, where a significant population of guanacos lives; the lake area, where Lake Lynch, Lake Escondido, Lake Blanco and Lake Fagnano (Kami) stand out.
