The Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego is located at the southern tip of Chile and extends across latitude from 52 to 55 degrees south and longitude from 68 to 75 degrees west. The island is shared by Chile and Argentina and is separated from the mainland by the Strait of Magellan.
Tierra del Fuego is an area of great ecological importance, home to a great diversity of animal and plant species, many of which are endemic to the region. It is also an area of great historical and cultural significance, being home to diverse indigenous communities such as the Selk'nam, Haush and Yamana, who have inhabited the region for thousands of years.
