The city of Bremen is located in the north of Germany, just over an hour's drive from Hamburg and just over two hours from the Netherlands. It is famous for the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm "The Bremen Town Musicians" — a donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster who embark on a journey to the city. There is a well-known statue in Bremen that honors these figures and has become one of the city's landmarks. It is located in the beautifully preserved medieval town centre.
Bremen was a member of the Hanseatic League, a powerful economic and defensive alliance of merchants' guilds and trading cities in northern Europe in the late Middle Ages. This heritage still shapes Bremen's economy and culture today. Bremen is a city with many facets — history, tradition, science, nature and culture — which together offer an always fascinating experience.
Meanwhile, Bremen is also known for its cycling culture, with miles of bike lanes and a vibrant community of cyclists. Both GFNY participants and companions have the opportunity to explore Bremen's rich history, cultural attractions and renowned hospitality, making GFNY Bremen not just a race, but a complete cycling holiday.
The competition distance will be about 110 km. Although the route is mostly flat, the wind will be a decisive factor. The start and finish are in the beautifully renovated Takak district, from where the route leads out of the city and into the quiet rural areas. The route presented is provisional. The final route will correspond to this in terms of characteristics and will be presented as soon as possible.
The shorter, non-competitive distance allows recreational riders to experience the experience of a GFNY on a relaxed 60km lap.
Individuals can also register as members of a team to take part in the GFNY Team Competition.
