Gran Fondo is Italian and translates approximately to “Big Ride.” Gran Fondo rides have their origin in Italy and France, where the general public was invited to ride a single stage of one of the professional grand tours, the Tour de France, and the Giro D'Italia after the pro race went through. Everyone, of any age and ability, was invited to participate. Ex-professionals and elite racers lined up side by side with 80-year-old farmers toting baguettes in the baskets of their 1920’s 1920s-era commuter bikes. Family members lined the route and handed out food and water bottles. While some choose to ride fast and test their endurance, by definition, a Gran Fondo is not a race but rather a mass start event designed to draw the community together and give everyone a chance to enjoy the fun of riding a bike on the same course as the pros.

It is truly a ride for everyone who is up for the challenge from 64 miles to 102!

Experience the unforgettable landscapes of the Oregon Coast Range on the Oregon Gran Fondo! Departing from Cottage Grove, Oregon, riders will traverse a choice of two all-road routes and one gravel-included route, each capturing the natural splendor of this iconic region. Here's what each route has to offer:

Route 1: Gran Fondo All-Road Epic (102 miles)

This challenging all-road route takes riders on a long journey through the heart of the Coast Range. With high-elevation climbs, scenic descents, and sweeping views of both forest and farmland, this route tests endurance while rewarding with remarkable vistas. Riders can expect multiple aid stations along the way, complete with hydration and nutrition, and support stations staffed with knowledgeable volunteers to keep the adventure rolling.

Route 2: Medio Fondo All-Road Classic (64 miles)

Perfect for those seeking a challenging yet manageable distance, this all-road route offers a balanced mix of climbs and scenic rollers. Riders will wind through old-growth forests, pass by rivers and creeks, and enjoy expansive valley views. This route captures the essence of the Coast Range’s beauty in a condensed format, perfect for riders wanting an immersive experience with a bit less mileage.

Route 3: Oregon Gran Fondo Gravel Adventure Route (94 miles)

For gravel enthusiasts, the Giro Fondo introduces an off-road twist! This route blends paved stretches with rugged gravel paths, taking riders deeper into remote parts of the Coast Range. Featuring long gravel segments through lush forests, steep climbs, and technical descents, this route is for riders craving an adventure that combines road cycling’s speed with the ruggedness of gravel terrain. Expect to feel the sense of wild Oregon with each turn.

Each route is supported with dedicated aid stations, route signage, and a well-coordinated safety team. Whether you’re looking for a road cycling challenge or a gravel adventure, the Oregon Gran Fondo offers a breathtaking and memorable experience for all.

Please note the timing point ends 10 miles from Cottage Grove.

We are excited to see you this season.
