With narrow roads, dozens of hills and constant twisting and turning, the Amstel Gold RaceĀ opens the trilogy of three Ardennes Classics. Founded in 1966 it is the only classic in the Netherlands, while their neighbours in Belgium have plenty.
In recent years, the finish was 1.8 kilometres after cresting the short and steep Cauberg. The 12% sections of this hill result in an exciting finish where timing is important.
