Gravelthon - The World's Largest Urban Adventure Ride a Big Success

The first Saturday in March featured the return of Gravelthon! to the urban sprawl of Dallas, TX.

The Spinistry

Billed as "The world's largest urban adventure ride", Gravelthon! launched over 300 riders onto a unique journey through the Trinity River corridor that featured numerous landmarks including rare access to the picturesque Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.

The ride started from said bridge which was closed to vehicular traffic to support the ride and other events throughout the day. Riders were offered routes as short a 6 miles for those trying gravel for the first time and as long as 100K for the gravel grinder veterans.

The course was marked and and comprised primarily of levee trails and dirt roads which wound through the City beside the Trinity River. Aid stations with professional mechanics, first aid and nutrition were spaced along the route for support purposes. Adventurous riders were supplied with GPS tracks which took them a little more off the beaten path and included special detours such as an unofficial brewery tour of Dallas.

Gravelthon! was organized by The Spinistry and All Out Trinity in support of the organization Pedal Against PTSD as well as recreational initiatives within the Trinity River Corridor. Organizers are already outlining the 2017 edition with plans to include a formal racing option in addition to the traditional "free form" adventure rides.
