In 2023, 2x World Hill Climb Champion Phil Gaimon joined them for the race.
He won in a time of 1:14:42 and claimed the Mt Baker Hill Climb KOM. No one broke his record in 2024, it will be tough to beat!
Phil shared his experience, saying, "Mt. Baker Hill Climb was well-run, safe, scenic, and challenging but with a positive atmosphere. I had tons of fun racing and meeting all of the riders, and I'll keep an eye out for more reasons to return to Bellingham. This was a perfect way to check Mt. Baker off of my list, and I'm excited to share the episode of Worst Retirement Ever with you all."
The Mt. Baker Hill Climb departs from Chair 9 Pizza in Glacier. Cyclist ascend 4,462 feet to Artist Point (5,076 feet elevation) in approximately 22 miles. The Mt. With steep elevation and several switchbacks, this ride is not for the faint of heart. Organizers invite racers to experience the agony AND the ecstasy!

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, riders will race to the summit of Mt. Washington in what's been called, "the toughest hillclimb in the US, if not the world", the Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb (MWARBH).
This race is hosted and benefits Tin Mountain Conservation Center.
Mt. Washington is the U.S’s equivalent of the legendary Italian climb of the Passo di Mortirolo, one of toughest and most feared climbs in the world, regularly used in the Giro d’Italia that brings a lump in throat to the most seasoned professional riders.
Once a year this race is held on the auto road of Mt Washington…the highest peak in the Northeastern United States. At 6,288 ft, Mt Washington holds the record for the highest wind gust directly measured at the Earth's surface, 231 mph. The summit features a yearly average temperature of 33.9°F (with no temp over 72°F ever recorded).
The route is 7.6 miles in length, has an average grade of 12% with extended sections of 18% and the last 50 yards is an amazing 22%!
The Mt. Washington Auto Road was opened in August 1861, a little over 100 years before the first official Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb race starting cannon was fired. Built by hand, the road climbs over 4,000 feet of elevation in 7.6 miles from the base.
Located at the intersection of 3 major weather tracks, Mt. Washington is known to have the “worst weather in America.”

Saturday May 3rd is a surprise scenic tour and Sunday May 4th is a Social Ride up.
Among the toughest 100 hill climbs in the USA, only three are in Arizona, and here in Tucson you live next door to one of them.
(According to John Summerson, "The Complete Guide to Climbing By Bike", Mt Lemmon is 33rd on the list of 100 toughest road bike climbs in the US, with a rating of either "hors category" or "category 1" on the scale used to rank the climbs in European stage racing.)
Yes, Mt Lemmon is right up there with the famous passes in the European tours: hardly anywhere else in the US can you climb so high for so many miles in succession. That's why, every winter, Tucson sees packs of riders in matching jerseys, many of them speaking languages other than English, booking up the mountain.
But because the road is so long, it's also very forgiving: the grade averages only 4.5% for 6600 feet of elevation gain over the 56-mile round trip, and the almost continuous 21-mile descent at the end is exciting without ever being terrifying.

If you haven't ridden the Lemmon in a while (or ever), GABA can help make it easy. You can minimize the weight in your pockets because we provide four SAG stops, about six miles apart, with fluids, munchies, and healthy carbs. In honor of the pie shop that once operated in Summerhaven near the summit, the uppermost SAG will serve a variety of pies. You can also opt to buy yourself lunch at the restaurants in Summerhaven or Ski Valley at the top. In case something goes wrong, GABA provides vehicular sweep support to help with mechanical problems or provide a lift.
If you're not interested in "easy", GABA can help with that, too. Round up a posse of your riding buddies, see how fast you can fly to the top, and enjoy a social stop to eat pie and swap lies before you charge back down

The legendary Cycle to the Sun is one of the most difficult bike climbs in the world.
The ride climbs 10,000 feet over 36 miles and reaches gradients up to 18%. As a comparison, the famed Mont Ventoux in the Tour de France is only a 5,336 foot climb over 13.6 miles.
It starts in Pa’ia at sea level and finishes up on top of the Haleakala Volcano at just above 10,000 feet (3,048 meters). It was first held in the 1980s but languished for many years. Kalima O Maui bought the rights to hold the race and started it back up in 2001.
Since 2008, Cycle To The Sun has been organized and produced by Go Cycling Maui and Maui Cyclery. Donnie Arnoult, owner of both businesses, who formerly owned the Vegas Professional Cycling Team on the US National Race Calendar, and is himself a Cat One pro racer. This will be Donnie’s 11th year organizing the event. Last year’s event (2018) was extremely well run and most successful attracting 200 riders.
Some potential entrants may object to the cost of entry. Please consider that fees to the National Park Service, required Emergency Medical Service coverage, insurance, police, porta-potties and bike transport add up to a considerable outlay.
A portion of the entry fee also is donated to support of the non-profit Paia Youth & Cultural Center, a terrific organization that provides Maui kids with fun, educational and recreational activities. Its beach-front facilities include a skate board park, radio station, multi-media lab and kitchen-cafe.
Holding the race on Saturday instead of Sunday allows more riders to stay at the event party without having to leave for Sunday evening flights home.
There will be three aid stations. The first will be at the 3,000-foot level (near Kula Lodge), the second will be at the 6,500-foot level (just outside the entrance to Haleakala National Park), and the last will be at the 8,000-foot level
There will be a post-race barbeque – location to be announced. Results and prizes will be announced at the party.

The Hill Climb takes place every September and offers a chance to climb with hundreds of fellow cyclists on Highway 542 while it is closed to traffic. Last year was the 6th annual edition and the first year the event sold out (450 riders)
This is your chance to climb it with hundreds of fellow cyclists, September 15, 2024. This challenge is not for the faint hearted, but the views are simply stunning!
This time-trial hill climb race is approx 21.3 miles with 2340 ft. net elevation gain. (+2426 ft./-86 ft.)
The course climbs very gradually the first 10 miles before nearly leveling off for another 5 miles. Then the last 4 miles of the 21 mile course are fairly steep, averaging 7% grade with short steeper sections.
There are a couple of spectacular vista points along the way. Be sure to enjoy them on the way back down.
The “Kanc,” as it is often called locally, is the backbone to many great cycling rides in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The 11.2-mile, individually timed ride climbs 3,249 feet to the summit of Mt. Diablo starting up South Gate Road. Mt. Diablo is one of the highest peaks in the San Francisco Bay Area, with views of the Farallon Islands and the Sierras.
Mount Diablo State Park is closed to traffic for this event and the first waves can ascend without any descending bike traffic. It is a once-a-year opportunity to enjoy riding the mountain without cars!
The event attracts well over 1,000 participants ranging in age from 6 to 87, of whom 838 finished the ascent to the summit of the mountain last year. The event was supported by 9 sponsors, 20 vendors, and 150 volunteers.
The Valley Spokesmen Bicycle Club (VSBC) began this ride 41 years ago to honor Joan Walt and two years ago in honor Joe Shami. We continue to hold this iconic event in their honor. Once again, the State Park has agreed to a fast turn-around at the summit which allows participants to return to an awards ceremony, vendor expo, music, and a great barbeque.
The ride welcomes all ages, abilities, teams, and bicycle types. It will be a once-a-year opportunity to enjoy riding the mountain without cars. Everyone celebrates after the ride with free BBQ, prizes, awards, and live music. Come participate in this epic ride that provides breathtaking scenery and test your climbing ability.
At the top, there will be food and drink before you descend and ride over to Monte Vista High School and Oak Hill Park to join the post-ride festivities. There you can cheer and perhaps join winners in 16 age categories, including King and Queen of the Mountain, and enjoy a great BBQ, beverages, vendors, and music for a grand celebration!
Entry includes a t-shirt, BBQ meal, and one beer.
VIDEO: How to CRUSH the Diablo Challenge!
The Mt. Diablo Challenge started as a fundraising ride dedicated to Joan Walt, who passed away at a young 26 years old of myocarditis. She had completed her annual physical just the week before with flying colors. Joan trained on Mt. Diablo two to three times a week. Her devastated mother asked if Valley Spokesmen could put on a ride up the mountain in Joan’s memory, and the Mount Diablo Challenge was born.
The 42nd Mount Diablo Challenge continues to benefit Save Mount Diablo through donations made by event participants during registration and a generous sponsorship from the Nathan M. Ohrbach Foundation.
The Allen Clark Hill Climb, the annual grunt-fest that has fast become a rite of cycling passage in the Mad River Valley, is a grueling time trial that rises 1,600 vertical feet in 6.2 miles, from the intersection of Routes 100 and 17 to the top of Appalachian Gap.
The event is named in honor of long-time Mad River Valley resident, Allen Clark. An avid cyclist who took up biking late in life, he rode 2,500-3,000 annually in Vermont. Allen especially loved the challenge of the Appalachian Gap.
This event is a tribute to Allen’s life and a fundraiser for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, an organization that meant a great deal to him.
The App gap is a 6.2 mile climb gaining 1600ft of elevation for an average gradient of 5%. Don’t be fooled by the numbers, this is very much like the Kanc, and has a false flat lead in before heading up. The steepest part is the end, as is tradition with most climbs in New England!
Entry includes automatic participation in a raffle for lots of great shwag!
Best Times — Medals awarded to the top three men and women in age categories. Post-race shwag raffle.
Age Categories : Under 15, 15-19, 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+, Tandem and Unicyclists
New Records — A special prize of $100 cash will be awarded to any man or woman who can set a new course record. Current records: Phil Mason — 23:11.43, Marti Shea — 26:47.30.
Combined Events — Trophies will be awarded to the man and woman with the best combined times for the bike race and Saturday's Stark Mountain Hill Climb footrace.
Prizes will be awarded for both men and women, 15 years and over. Junior riders, under age 15, will finish at Mad River Glen.
